Covering the adventures of two small-time crooks who are hired by a retired police officer (Sanjeev Kumar) to take on the dreaded bandit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan). Along the way, the duo find love, partake in musical numbers, engage in one of the greatest opening fight scenes ever and an outlandish climactic battle.
